A New Year’s resolution is a tradition, practiced worldwide wherein a person promises to accomplish acts of self-improvement or kindness for the coming year. As 2017 is nearing, I’ve decided to list mine down below.
1.) Stop Hating
I want to take “hate” out of my vocabulary and start loving more.
I believe that God loves me so much and it’s only reasonable that I learn to love myself the same way. How? By feeding myself with good thoughts such as the miracle of how God had saved me, how I’ve become stronger, smarter and braver, and the fact that a lot of people love me.
By loving myself, I make myself more open to loving the people in my life: my family in the Philippines (whom I promise to call more so I could help with their problems and help them grow as well), my friends and my colleagues.
But love is not only for people. It should also be applied to my passion inwriting, to my passion in inspiring people through good story-telling, and to BetterAndFree. Likewise, I should show more love for my company and my work.
2.) Choose Faith Over Doubt
As I grow my relationship with God, I want to make it sure to trust Him in everything that is happening in my life more. As a human being, I have limited resources and have no control over many things, but God is all-powerful, able to provide anything I need and able to change any situation. I’ll remind myself of this through constant prayer.
3.) Forgive
Every one of us has probably experienced the difficulty to forgive others, but as stated in the prayer Our Father – “Forgive our sins as we forgive those who sinned against us” – receiving and granting forgiveness should go hand in hand. It’s not easy, but mastering forgiveness is bestowing happiness to ourselves.
4.) Be Grateful
Normally, when something bad happens to me, I get frustrated. But little by little, I’ve been able to manage it. One way to achieve this is by being thankful of what I have and keeping in mind that for every bad thing that happens, there is always something good that awaits.As a result, I feel more blessed.
5.) Celebrate the Abundance of Life by Being Positive
We experience ups and downs, bad and good, loneliness and happiness. But it is our choice which of the negative and positive will retain in our mind. Needless to say, don’t linger on the negative. We have room for improvement and a chance to correct what we have done wrong yesterday. Move forward and be positive so that we can appreciate life more and attain contentment and happiness.
These five New Year’s resolutions are better than creating more money or developing a healthier body because acquiring inner peace and wisdom has a holistic effect in life, including the financial and physical aspects. It will also make you more motivated in everything you do.
Here is a favourite quote that I want to share with you.
“Life ends when you stop Dreaming;
Hope dies when you stop Believing;
Love fails when you stop Caring.” – Anonymous
Dreaming doesn’t mean discontent. It means we need to have goals (like our resolutions) that will drive us to help ourselves and others.
Belief or faith is integral in our spiritual life. We live our life on Earth guided by our faith in hopes of attaining Heaven in the afterlife.
Caring, the ability to chow concern and empathy towards others – is the primary component of love and love gives true meaning to our lives.
