One of the toughest questions that individuals battle with has to do is with self identity. Knowing who you are helps you in understanding your purpose in life by knowing who you are.

God created us for a reason. He is deliberate and intentional in all that He does. In Acts 17:26, Paul explains, “He [God] made from one man every nation of men, and He determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live.”

If God was this intentional in placing you and me into this year, and into the specific location you were born in, then He must have had a reason. One of the reasons has been given in the same chapter, Acts 17:27. “God did this so that men would seek Him, and perhaps reach out for Him, and find Him, though he is not far from each one of us.

So, How do we get to know who we are? We first seek God. Let me digress a little, to the story of the Samaritan woman in John 4. She met Jesus; had a fascinating conversation with him that made her run back to her people with one report, “Come and see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Christ?” She got to see herself for who she was after meeting Jesus.

Back to our topic: Our journey of self-awareness is highly dependent on our deliberate decision to seek God, then He helps in showing us who we are.

Now then, what does God say about you and me?

God has called us sons. A son is an heir. All that belongs to the Father belongs to the heir. Can you remember the story about the prodigal son? His brother was not pleased with how the father welcomed the lost brother. The father responded by saying, “My son, you are always with me, and everything I have is yours.” (Luke 15:31)

If you are an heir, then some things are already yours to claim. God has already given them to His heirs.

Do you wish for the best life here on earth? God has already set things in motion for you. Claim your position as an heir, then ask in accordance with God’s will, and you will surely receive, for no father would give His child a stone when he asks for bread.

Remember this: We have been made co-heirs with Christ. We should then live and walk as heirs.
