Have you ever looked at your life and wondered what people see in you? Take, for example; a loved one who seems to always be there for you even when you messed up, or when your repulsive habits are pushing others away.
I have at times wondered what God saw in me. Considering some of the paths I have chosen to take, and habits I have rebelliously held on to, I can’t quite fathom what God sees in me. The more I think about it, the more confounded I become. It’s confusing, yet amazing!
Here is what I have come to learn: God used the weak to shame the strong and the fools to shame the wise. (1 Cor 1:27) It was never about our strengths or wisdom; it never will be.
I pose a challenge to you. What is it that you fear most? For me, it has always been the spotlight. I would never wish to be put on the limelight, to be scrutinized or vetted. I would rather coil in my comfort zone and stay there until my last breath.
If I had a scientific name for this, I would call it “The Gideon Complex.” Gideon gave God an excuse after excuse because he was fearful. It did not matter to him that God had already called him by another name, “mighty man of valor.”
We all have this within us. An innate fear of the unknown. A stronghold that keeps reminding us of how inadequate we are. How unworthy and sinful we are that God cannot use us. Sadly, we tend to believe this voice more than the word of God.
I ask that you join me in making a firm stand. We choose to listen to the voice that matters. It does not matter how tainted the past is. It matters that the future is better because of God. Don’t ever allow this voice which reminds you that you are not good enough to prevail. It should not have a say at all in your life.
Moses was a stammerer, but he spoke boldly before Pharaoh. Rahab had a tainted past as a prostitute, but she became a great grandmother of Jesus. In Christ, we are a new creation. We may look as if we are broken, but I promise you this: The world is yet to see how God can amazingly use you! Don’t let this pass you by.
