Philippines is so proud and honor to get its first ever gold medal from Tokyo Olympics 2020 on July 26, 2021 after Hidilyn Diaz defeated the world champion Liao Qiuyun of China in the women’s division under 55kg weightlifting competition.

Diaz preparation for 5 years reap its fruit with its pride for Filipinos. She got also another silver medal way back 2016 Rio Olympics.

On the record, she was the third Filipino athlete to get the silver medal after Anthony Villanueva (1964) from men’s featherweight and Mansueto “Onyok” Velasco (1996) from men’s light flyweight; both are from boxing.

This is a record breaking which she was the very first Filipino to get the gold medal in Olympics competition and the ever first woman to be successful in Philippines’ history.

Now, Filipinos are not only famous and good in pageantry and boxing but also in weight lifting. 

Diaz success story is a result of her Faith, discipline, and dreams to achieve her best in life.
