People often say that they regret the things that they didn’t do in life. Others regret the things that they have done. Either way regret is such a common part of our daily lives. Or when they get older they would be thinking they should do something before they die. It’s natural to reminisce over the events of our lives and wonder how differently things might have gone if we did this or did that. Regret can go both ways, it may drag you down and stop you from moving forward in your life. Or it may be the thing that influences all of your future decisions in a positive way to save you from making the same mistakes.

One of the first steps to take in order to live a life with no regrets is to simply do the things that you want to do; be mindful of your goal. Whatever holds you back, whether it is nerves, fears, anxiety or indecisiveness, the best thing to do to avoid regretting the opportunities that you didn’t take, is to take them. I know that this sounds like an obvious thing, but next time you’re on the edge of a decision and you aren’t sure if you can do it or if you should. Dive in head first, take that trip, ask that person out on a date and buy the things you want. As a young adult, I lived with regrets every day, anxiety and worry got the best of me. As I grew older I decided to stop missing all of these opportunities and actually enjoy my life. Now I live without regrets at all.

Another way to stop living with regrets is to stop taking the safe route. Everybody has dreams. A lot of people have a dream career that they wish they had. However almost all of these people have never actually chased their dream, believing that it was too hard to even try. Of course, I’m not suggesting quitting your day job to become a professional singer when you have no experience or even talent. But by taking steps towards your dream in some way, you will either be closer towards it or at least on the right path.

Some time ago I worked a job which I hated. I, like everyone else had dreams of my ideal career. Instead of giving up on them, I took online courses in the subject in order to make sure that I would actually be able to get a job in the field I wanted to be in. By doing this I saw the results over time and took a job similar to what I wanted and then finally found one doing exactly what I love.

Live life with no regrets by doing the things that you have always wanted to do. Don’t hold back and let negative thoughts keep you down. Get out there and live a better life, the one you want not the one you settled for.
